Wetumpka Volleyball Competes in PCA Tournament
PRATTVILLE, Ala. - Wetumpka volleyball's season began on Aug. 23 at the Prattville Christian Academy Tournament, where the team went 0-3 in the pool play stages.
Despite the disappointing finish, the team had a total of 60 kills across the three matches. Senior outside attack Carlynn Chumley led the team with 17 total kills. Middle hitter Jill Hand led the team with 9 blocks in a strong start to her senior season. Co-captain Abi White tallied 32 total assists on the day.
The Indians started their day by facing off against Brewbaker Tech. The team lost the first set 26-24, but rallied to record a 27-25 win in the second set to force a winner-take-all third set. Wetumpka dropped the third set 15-5.
Immediately following the first game, the Indians took on a familiar face in Pike Road. The Indians dropped both sets in the game, losing both sets 25-17.
The Indians faced off against Alabama Christian Academy in their third game, where they again forced a third set. The Indians won the first set 25-21 and lost the second set in a 25-22 nailbiter. ACA won the third set 15-9.
Head Coach Brooke Watson said that the team needs to improve its defense.
"We just have a few minor obstacles with our defense that need to be worked on," said Watson. "I have no doubt that everyone learned from today and will grow to better themselves and the team for Monday."
The Indians will take on Reeltown in the home opener on Monday, Aug. 25.
