FCB Athlete of the Week: Aug. 21 | Ashlynn Turner
Presented by First Community Bank
WETUMPKA, Ala. - Ashlynn Turner has been selected as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for Aug. 21.
Turner is set to begin her senior season as a libero for the Wetumpka volleyball team and was selected by her teammates to serve as the team captain.
Entering her first season as head coach of the volleyball team, Brooke Watson decided to have the team vote for who their captain would be, and she was rather unsurprised by the results.
"It was really no surprise that the majority voted for it to be Ashlynn." Watson said. "She is a remarkable young lady both on and off the court. Her leadership and guidance is one that's really going to help the team this year."
Last season, the libero led the Indians in digs per set with 7.2 and total receptions with 489, highlighting Turner's defensive prowess.
Despite Turner's impressive junior season, she begins the 2025 campaign just four months removed from a reconstructive ACL surgery. She will begin the season playing in a brace.
"Coming off that injury," Watson said, "and seeing how much that's impacting her both physically and mentally, it has given her more of a drive to really push her teammates."
Watson continued to praise Turner's court vision and highlighted her as a vocal leader on the floor for the Indians.
"[Turner] reads the court so well." Watson said. "She can tell you exactly what you do wrong every single play. She'll tell the hitters what they need to do going through their approach."
Turner and the Indians begin their season at the Prattville Christian Academy Tournament on Aug. 23, followed by the home opener against Reeltown on Aug. 25.
