Volleyball Looks Towards Area Tournament on Oct. 15
WETUMPKA, Ala. - With the regular season at its close, Wetumpka volleyball is looking ahead to the 6A Area 4 Tournament to earn a spot in the AHSAA playoffs on Wednesday.
The Indians finished the regular season with a 14-11 overall record and a 4-2 area record. The tournament will be hosted by Montgomery Academy, who earned the top-spot in the region with an unbeaten 6-0 record in area play.
Wetumpka's 4-2 area record was good enough to earn the second seeded, followed by Stanhope Elmore as the three seed and Percy Julian as the fourth.
The Indians won both of their matches during the regular season against Stanhope Elmore and Percy Julian both.
In the first round, Wetumpka will face off against rival Stanhope Elmore at 5:30 on Oct. 15. The winner of that match will face the winner of Montgomery Academy vs Percy Julian for the area championship.
Head coach Brooke Watson said she hopes to see consistency from the team during the tournament.
"We've show that when we play our style of volleyball and trust each other, we can compete with anyone," said Watson. "To make it through the tournament and into the playoffs, we need to stay disciplined, minimize unforced errors, and keep the team-first mindset that has gotten us this far. We need to have heart and grit."
The Indians will faceoff against Stanhope Elmore at 5:30 pm in the second game of the 6A Area 4 Region Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
