2025 Wetumpka Volleyball Season Preview
WETUMPKA, Ala. - With the school year officially underway, the start of fall sports is quickly approaching. The Wetumpka volleyball team will look to win the region after finishing last season in a disappointing third place.
After serving as an assistant coach for the past few seasons, Brooke Watson has taken on the head coaching role for the team and aims to lead the Indians on the court.
With seven seniors on the roster, the team brings loads of talent and experience into the season. Senior libero Ashlynn Turner is set to be a commanding presence while on the floor for the Indians.
"[Turner] reads the court so well," said Watson. "She can tell you exactly what you do wrong every single play. She'll tell the hitters what they need to do going through their approach."
Senior Cheyenne Boshell led the team in the 2024 season in both serving aces and assists, and is poised to have another strong season in 2025.
"Cheyenne had a fantastic year last year," Coach Watson said. "She not only sets, but also hits on the right side. She is a very dominant force for us on the right side."
Watson highlighted junior Abi White as a force to watch at setter this season.
"[White] has worked incredibly hard to earn the respect of her teammates," said Watson. "She places sets well, reads her hitters well, and is very court-aware."
The Indians' season will kick off the season on Saturday, Aug. 23rd at the Prattville Christian Academy Tournament.
Coach Watson said that starting the season with a tournament is ideal for the team as it gives them a better opportunity to fix little kinks.
"Going into a tournament after the first match is over, we are about to play the next team," Watson said. "We can fix what we need to fix, try things out a different way. By the fourth game, we should be set in how it needs to flow and how our rotations need to look."
The Indians' first home game is Monday, Aug. 25, against Reeltown.
