Volleyball Season Set to Begin at PCA Tournament
PRATTVILLE, Ala. - The Wetumpka volleyball team is slated to begin its season Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Prattville Christian Academy tournament.
After winning the region from 2019 to 2023, the Indians look to get back to the top of the standings after finishing last season in a disappointing third place in the area.
The team will be led on the court by senior Ashlynn Turner, who was selected by her teammates last week as team captain. Junior co-captain Abi White will join her.
The first game of the pool play stage of the tournament begins at 9:00 am, with Wetumpka set to face Brewbaker Tech. The Indians will also face Pike Road and Alabama Christian Academy in pool play.
The top two finishers in each pool will advance to the bracket play portion of the tournament.
In her first year as head coach after serving as an assistant, Brooke Watson looks to lead the team back to the top of the region standings. Watson also believes that starting the season with a tournament will benefit the team as the season develops.
"Going into a tournament after the first match is over, we are about to play the next team," Watson said. "We can fix what we need to fix, try things out a different way. By the fourth game, we should be set in how it needs to flow and how our rotations need to look."
The Indians will face off against Reeltown on Monday, Aug. 25 in the home opener.
