Harriet Winchester enters her fourth season as the head coach for the Wetumpka girl's basketball team. Coach Winchester is a former Division I guard for the Troy Trojans. Following the 2025 season, she was named Coach of the Year by the Wetumpka Herald.

Prior to coaching, she played women’s basketball at the Division I level at Troy University. Under Coach Chanda Rigby, she won Sun Belt Championships in back-to-back seasons.

Winchester chalked up .500 seasons in both of her first two seasons. In her debut year, Zariah Fannin starred for the team. The class of ‘23 graduate now plays at the NAIA level for the Point University Skyhawks in West Point, Ga.

Last season, Winchester’s team broke the .500 streak to finish 15-12, including an area championship and a tournament bid. It’s the first area title. won by Winchester in just her third season as a head coach. The Indians fell shy of Pike Road in the first round of the tournament.

Like her playing experience at Troy, Winchester brings a high-octane, fast paced approach to the team. With a roster 50% comprised of guards and plenty quick, Winchester hopes to carry her philosophy into another potential area title: speed.
