Pair of Indians Sign to College Softball on National Signing Day
WETUMPKA, Ala. - Wetumpka softball's Alyssa Brown and Bailey Carlisle made their commitment to continue their careers at the collegiate level official on Wednesday's National Signing Day.
Alyssa Brown and Bailey Carlisle committing to Grambling State and Huntingdon, respectively, continues a streak of having at least one college signee per class during head coach Daryl Otwell's tenure.
Both Brown and Carlisle have had tremendous success with the Indians. Brown served as the starting catcher for the Indians during the 2023 season, where Wetumpka won a 6A State Championship over Athens. Carlisle was a more recent addition to the varsity roster, and has excelled. The shortstop represented the black and gold this summer at the AHSAA North/South All-Star Games where she tallied a run and stolen base at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Alabama.
Alyssa Brown's commitment to Grambling State is the third Division I signee in the last four years. She joins the Mya Holt (class of 2024) of Troy and Ashlynn Campbell (class of 2023) at Purdue at the highest level of college athletics. With the Lady Tigers, Brown will be looking earn a SWAC Championship for the first time since 2019.
"I'm looking forward to becoming the best version of me and be able to accomplish things I know I can do at a high level." Brown said. "I want to start freshman year and be on the best, and I'm going to work hard to do it."
Bailey Carlisle joins a very successful Huntindgon program. The Hawks finished 38-7 last season with a conference tournament runner-up finish. The team competed in the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament. Huntingdon has finished with 30 wins or more each of the last three seasons.
"I'm excited to play at the next level." Carlisle said. "All the hard work, long days and balls caught. I really made it."
Carlisle and Brown have one more season to go with the Indians first though. The duo will begin the mission for a third state championship in program history in February 2026.
