Wetumpka Men's XC Crowned Section Champions
AUBURN, Ala. - The Wetumpka Indians men's cross country team earned its fourth section championship in school history on Thursday morning at Kiesel Park. Three Wetumpka runners individually earned top ten finishes en route to the title.
Senior Walter Lynch left his mark on the program with a runner-up finish and time of 17:56.59. It is Lynch's first sub-18 effort, and marks a 34 second personal best in his penultimate race as an Indian.
Bennett Williams remained consistent as ever, running just behind Lynch with a time of 17:59.44 to finish in third place. That time is roughly one one minute and 10 seconds faster than his effort at the same race last season. Together, The Lynch and Williams performances marks the first time Wetumpka has had multiple sub-18 times at the Section Championshop meet since 2022 (Gavan Baxley, 17:20.20; Matthew McGehee, 17:44.21)
The third top ten finisher for the boy's is Parker Williams in eighth place with a time of 19:24. The Indians top five is rounded out with 11th place Kaden Peterson-Dillard and 13th place Silas Fallin with times of 19:45.57 and 19:50.84, respectively.
The Indians will carry their momentum into the final meet of the season in Oakville, Ala. The AHSAA 6A State Championships will begin the morning of Saturday, Nov. 8. You can purchase tickets HERE
