Cross Country Makes Strides at Montevallo Early Bird Twilight
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Wetumpka cross country raced to some major personal bests in its second meet of the season in the Montevallo Early Bird Twilight on Saturday night.
With both the men and women competing in the purple division of races, the men came away with a fifth place team finish of 11 while the women closed out the night in seventh of nine.
Of the 15 combined runners competing for the black & gold, ten came away with new career best times, with the entirety of the roster running faster times than they did in the opening meet a week ago.
Bennett Williams led the men with a time of 18:16.82 and earned an eigth place finish. With Nathan Hill not far behind in 18:44.21, the sophomore's new best time placed him in 15th.
For the women, Jessilyn Oliver improved her time by 57 seconds after running a 23:13.99 to finish 16th. Somer Moone and Finley Davisson worked together side-by-side to finish 42nd and 43rd with times of 26:24.77 and 26:29.94, respectively.
The Indians look to continue to build off the momentum as they head to the Oak Mountain XC Invite in Oak Mountain, Ala. on Saturday, Sept. 20.
