FCB Athlete of the Week - Dec. 15: JD Denmark
WETUMPKA, Ala. - Wetumpka Track and Field's JD Denmark is this weeks First Community Bank Athlete of the Week. The senior earns the honors after a record-breaking performance this weekend.
Denmark competed in the Holiday Invitational indoor track and field meet at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Saturday. Competing in the shot put, Denmark launched an impressive mark of 47 feet. That length awarded him third place in the meet.
47 feet is a personal best for Denmark, beating his season opening performance of 45-1 inch. He surpasses Colby Golson (c/o '21) for the indoor shot put record. Golson's best mark came in February 2021 with a throw of 45-11.25.
Along with track and field, Denmark spent this fall with the football team, where he has excelled on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Spending time at fullback, defensive end and more, he has built his strength up for a smooth transition to the track and field season less than a month after football wrapped up.
Denmark and the Indians continue with Indoor season, with the AHSAA 6A State Championship only six weeks away. Denmark aims to improve his already impressive record, and represent the black and gold on the podium in indoor and outdoor state meets during his final year.
