Ballard Shines in MBB's Three-Win Week
Wetumpka men's basketball earned dominant wins over Tallassee, Elmore County and Chilton County this week. The Indians are now holding a five-game win streak.
The week began against Tallassee on Tuesday night, and it was a hot start from the jump. Wetumpka held a 16-0 lead in the first quarter before the Tigers could find their first points. By the end of the first quarter, Wetumpka led 24-6. The Indians managed to run away from their and earn an 87-36 win to open the busy week.
Five different Indians had double-double nights, the most double-doubles the team has had in a game this season. Kaleb Ballard stood out with 16 points and 16 rebounds including multiple dunks to add to the highlight reel. Chris Robinson narrowly missed a triple-double after putting up 15 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Andrew Voyles, Tom Suddith and John Wingard earned double-doubles as well.
Andrew Voyles built off his strong showing on Tuesday by leading the Indians to a 57-22 victory over the Elmore County Panthers. The senior had a team-high 19 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the floor. Kaleb Ballard finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds as well. The win secured a 2-0 week at home, and put the Indians' home record for the season at 3-1.
On Friday night Wetumpka managed to close out the week with a road win over Chilton County 54-30. Wetumpka outscored the Tigers 30-11 in the first half to comfortably leave with the team's eighth win of the year.
Kaleb Ballard again earned a double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Ballard has managed a double-double performance in each of the Indians last seven games, and eight of the last nine. Tom Suddith also had another strong showing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Wetumpka now holds an 8-3 record on the season, with wins in each of the last five games. The Indians have yet another busy week with games on Monday, Thursday and Firday against Marbury, at Prattville and at Chilton County.
