Boy's Basketball Goes 2-1 at Pelham Thanksgiving Tournament
PELHAM, Ala. - Wetumpka boy's basketball finished its trip to the Pelham Thanksgiving Tournament with a 2-1 record, with an opening loss to Pelham followed by back-to-back wins over Prattville and Montgomery Catholic.
Wetumpka entered the tournament facing off with the host team on Saturday. The Indians were beaten 77-45 in the first of three games between Saturday and Tuesday.
Despite the loss, it was another double-digit showing from Andrew Voyles. The senior has a team-high 10 points along with eight rebounds.
Three players finished the first round game with double-digit rebounds: John Hudson Wingard with 12, and both Chris Robinson and Tom Suddith with 10 each.
The Indians entered the Monday contest with Prattville seeking to avenge its opening round loss, and the loss to Prattville suffered on Nov. 18. The black and gold achieved its goal with a 57-53 victory over the Lions.
Kaleb Ballard was the star of the show in the win with an impressive double-double of 18 points and 20 rebounds. At the time, 20 was a new career high in grabs off the glass for Ballard. Chris Robinson narrowly missed a triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.
In the final contest of the three-game tournament, Wetumpka steamrolled Montgomery Catholic with a 68-50.
A personal best of 20 rebounds was broken just one day later when Kaleb Ballard amounted for 26 total rebounds, including 13 of the 32 offensive rebounds for the Indians. Ballard also stunned the Knights with a career best of 32 points.
Chris Robinson and Tom Suddith both managed to account for double-doubles as well. Robinson finished with 11 rebounds and a team-leading 11 assists. Suddith earned 10 point, 11 rebound day in just 16 minutes of playing time.
The Indians now move to a 5-3 record on the year. After playing five games over the last six days, Wetumpka gets a much needed rest. The team will not play again until a game with Tallassee on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
