Wetumpka Moves to 5A Following AHSAA Reclassifications
WETUMPKA, Ala. - Wetumpka will be returning to 5A next season following an announcement from the AHSAA on Friday morning. This change will go into effect beginning with the 2026-27 academic year.
With the AHSAA coming to a decision on the separation of public and private schools, public schools will now have six divisions again, 1A through 6A, while private schools will have class Double-A and Single-A.
With the removal of the 7A division for public schools, which was created in 2014, the 32 schools with the highest enrollment now will compete in 6A while the next 65 schools, including Wetumpka, will compete in 5A.
The Indians have competed in 6A since 2006 after spending 21 seasons at the 5A level from 1985-2005.
