Wetumpka Soars to Third Straight Victory in Win Over Percy Julian
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Wetumpka Indians (3-3, 2-2 6A Region 2) moved its win streak to three games after a 34-20 win over the Percy Julian Phoenix (2-6, 1-3 6A Region 2) on Thursday night at Cramton Bowl.
The first two scores of the night were off the foot of Elex Smeland. Back-to-back field goals gave Wetumpka an early 6-0 lead. The sophomore kicker has yet to miss a field goal or extra point so far this season.
The win comes after a dominant second quarter, where the Indians scored on all four of its drives, and went into the locker room ahead 28-6. Kaleb Ballard shined for the Indians offense. The sophomore brought in two touchdowns in that quarter to give Wetumpka the advantage. He finished the night with 54 yards off five receptions to go with the pair of scores.
Though Percy Julian managed to close the gap, Wetumpka's defense put a halt to the Phoenix's rise. Emerson Paulk Jr. forced a late interception to seal the game and keep Wetumpka's pursuit for a playoff bid alive. Paulk now has four interceptions on the season.
Wetumpka now prepares to finish off its four-game road stretch with its second consecutive game at Cramton Bowl. The Indians take on Park Crossing in Montgomery, Ala. at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17. The game will be broadcast on The Wetumpka Sports Network YouTube, Facebook and 105.1 WRFS.
