Wingard's Late Score Gives Wetumpka Win Over Eufaula
EUFAULA, Ala. - The Wetumpka Indians (3-3, 2-3 6A Region 2) scored in the final minute against the Eufaula Tigers (4-2, 3-0 5A Region 2) to win 36-32 at Tiger Stadium.
In a back-and-forth game, Eufaula took a 32-29 lead with 2:17 left to play. The Indians managed a 94-yard drive that ended in a touchdown pass to John Hudson Wingard to take the lead with 37 seconds remaining. The score gave Wingard an impressive final statline of six receptions, 197 yards and three touchdowns.
Eufaula managed to have an opportunity to throw a hail mary, but it was batted down by Emerson Paulk Jr. to finish off win.
It was a battle for quarterback Charlie Skipper. A three interception night, including a pick six would appear as things were going wrong. The sophomore's composure shined bright as he still fired off three passing touchdowns and scored two more on the ground. Skipper finished with 374 passing yards, 57 rushing and five total touchdowns.
Andrew Voyles was key in the offense rallying. The senior pulled in five receptions for a 78 yards.
Walt Myrick and Logan Fawcett both impressed with 12 and 11 tackles, respectively. The duo also had two tackles for loss each.
An interception from Kingston Johnson continues the streak of turnovers Wetumpka has built up. The Indians have forced a turnover or onside kick recovery in every game this season.
The Indians enter a bye week before they travel for back-to-back games at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, beginning with Percy Julian on Thursday Oct. 9. The game will be broadcast on 105.1 WRFS and the Wetumpka Sports Network Facebook and YouTube channel with coverage beginning at 6:30, kickoff at 7pm.
