Wetumpka Drops Matchup with Pike Road
WETUMPKA, Ala. - The Wetumpka Indians (1-3, 0-2 6A Region 2) lost its home clash with the Pike Road Patriots (3-1, 2-0 6A Region 2) on Friday night by a 29-6 final score.
Wide reciever Kaleb Ballard caught the lone touchdown for the Indians early in the second quarter. The 16 yard grab is his third touchdown of the season, the most among the team.
The pass came from Charlie Skipper, who finished the night with 203 yards passing. The sophomore ranks fourth in Alabama in passing yards with 908 through the first four games.
Defensively, Emerson Paulk Jr. once again impressed after forcing an interception while the Patriots were in scoring position. Paulk now has interceptions in back-to-back weeks, and the Indians maintain its streak of at least one turnover in each of the last six games. The streak dates back to the regular season finale at Demopolis last season.
Wetumpka's third straight loss mimics results from a season ago, when the Indians started the same way en route to a 7-3 regular season finish. The losses last year came to the same three teams as well. With a schedule of opponents identical to the year prior, Wetumpka will try to defend its wins against each of the remaining teams on the schedule begining with Rehobeth next Friday.
The Indians will begin a four-game road stretch with Rehobeth on Sept. 19. Kickoff is at 7 pm and will be broadcast on The Wetumpka Sports Network YouTube, Facebook and 105.1 WRFS. You can purchase tickets HERE.
