Senior LB Walt Myrick named FCB Athlete of the Week for Sept. 11
Presented by First Community Bank
WETUMPKA, Ala. - Senior linebacker Walt Myrick has been selected as this week's First Community Bank Athlete of the Week.
Friday night against Russell County, Myrick earned a spot in the history of Wetumpka football by setting a new single-game tackle record with 24 total tackles.
Those 24 tackles included 14 solo tackles and two tackles-for-loss.
Myrick's 51 total tackles through three games places him in third place in total tackles across all levels of football in Alabama.
Myrick credited the Wetumpka football program for putting him in a position to be able to break the record.
"It's been an amalgamation of the years that Wetumpka has invested in me," said Myrick. "I'm put in a position where I'm just playing ball like Bear tells me. It felt like any other game. It's slowly sinking in but it feels real good."
More than anything, Myrick is glad to have his last name represented in Wetumpka's rich history.
"My uncle played running back and my dad played running back," said Myrick. "The Myricks have a history at Wetumpka, and I'm glad our last name is up there, not just my name."
Myrick and the Indians will host Pike Road on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 pm.
