P/3B Lalah Culpepper Named FCB Athlete of the Week for May 4

WETUMPKA, Ala. -- Junior Lalah Culpepper of Wetumpka Softball has been selected as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for May 4.
Culpepper's selection comes off a weekend that saw softball win its sixth consecutive area championship and fifth straight 40+ win season.
The standout junior continued to impress on the rubber and in the box throughout the area tournament.
After recieving a first round bye as area winners, softball faced off against rivals Stanhope Elmore on Friday afternoon, winning 10-2.
Culpepper pitched a complete game against the Mustangs, going for 7 innings, giving up two runs with just one of them earned while striking out six. At the plate, she scored twice in a 2-for-4 showing that included two doubles.
Saturday saw the Indians face off against the Mustangs again, this time with an area championship on the line.
The high stakes resulted in even higher results for Culpepper, who was lights out at the plate.
Culpepper went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and hit for the cycle while collecting a handful of RBI's and scoring three times. She drew a walk and added a stolen base for good measure in the Indians 17-3 win.
Softball will be back on the diamond next week, as they head to Gulf Shores on Monday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 12 for the South Regional Tournament, with sights set on a trip to Oxford.
