T&F's JD Denmark Named FCB Athlete of the Week for Feb. 2

WETUMPKA, Ala. - Track and field's JD Denmark has been selected as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for Feb. 2. The senior's nomination comes after he won the AHSAA 6A Shot Put Individual State Championship this past weeking at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Denmark was among six Indians and relay teams that competed for the chance at a state title this past weekend. Each team or individual competitor represented a top-16 time or mark in the state.
Denmark won the Shot Put State Championship with a mark of 52 feet 1.72 inches, improving on his own best mark of 47 feet by a whopping five feet.
The previous 47 feet mark was the previous school record, set by Denmark in December after surpassing Colby Golson (c/o '21) for the indoor shot put record. Golson's best mark came in February 2021 with a throw of 45-11.25.
Denmark transitioned to Track & Field after spending time during the football season as a fullback, edge rusher, linebacker, and special teams player, highliting his athleticism.
