WETUMPKA, Ala. -- Right-handed pitcher Colton Ashmore for Wetumpka baseball has been selected as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for April 13.
Ashmore's selection comes from Tuesday night's win over Percy Julian, a 13-0 victory to start off area play.
Tuesday night's game also served as Senior Night for baseball, and Ashmore couldn't have drawn a more perfect start on the mound.
Ashmore, a senior, pitched a perfect game in five innings against the Pheonix, retiring all 15 batters he faced throughout the five inning contest.
Ashmore began his night with a strikeout to the first batter of the game, and continued to impress tallying six strikeouts. He picked up at least one K in all but one inning.
His final tally for the night was 5.0 innings pitched, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 earned runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
Across the season, Ashmore has pitched 19.2 innings across 7 appearances, starting four of those. He carries a record of 2-1, and has allowed just 8 hits whilst striking out 19 batters thus season.
Ashmore and the Indians will return to action this week, hosting rival Stanhope Elmore on Tuesday, April 14, with first pitch slated for 5:00.
