1B/P Sophie Arant Named FCB Athlete of the Week for Mar. 30

WETUMPKA, Ala. - Softball's Sophie Arant has been selected as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for March 30. In the last 8 games, she tallied a .429 average with four doubles, a homerun, 14 RBI's, and 9 runs score.
Arant's selection comes off a week that saw softball go 7-2 and finish runner-up in the Gulf Coast Classic tournament over spring break.
The tournament began with four games on Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24 before moving into bracket play on the 25th.
Arant got off to a hot start in the Indians first game against Westside Consolidated (AR), knocking a runner home with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. She hit an inside-the-park homer un tge bottom of the third, giving her 3 RBI's in the black & gold's 5-0 win.
Later in the day, Wetumpka faced off against Hoover in a 7-2 loss. Arant tallied an RBI double and collected one of the Indians' 4 hits.
On Tuesday, March 24, the Indians played another pair of games. The first, a 17-0 win over Little Rock Central (AR) saw the Indians pitch a combined no-hitter in the 4-inning contest. Arant pitched the final two innings, striking out one and allowing no hits. At the plate, Arant collected two doubles and scored three runs herself, in addittion to knocking in another three.
They took down the Fayetteville Wolves 21-6 to finish out group play, where Arant went 2-for-2 with 3 runs and 4 RBI's and a double. She was hit by a pitch as well.
In bracket play, Arant went 2-for-3 against Springville in a 6-3 win to send the Indians to the semifinals against Hartselle.
Arant helped lift Wetumpka to a spot in the Championship after taking down the #2 ranked Hartselle Tigers, 8-6. Arant collected one hit on three at bats, driving in two runs and scoring one herself.
Softball will be back in action this week, traveling to Pike Road on Tuesday, Mar. 31 before a two game homestand to end the week against Stanhope Elmore and Thompson.
