Wrestling's Blake Adams named FCB Athlete of the Week for Dec. 22

WETUMPKA, Ala. - 8th grade wrestler Blake Adams has been named the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for Dec. 22.
Adams selection comes off a busy week for the wrestler in the 106 pound weightclass that saw him earn medalist honors in two seperate tournaments.
To begin the week, Adams wrestled in the Swede Umbach Tournament in Auburn, Ala., helping the Indians secure a second place team finish out of 27 teams at the tournament.
He finished in third place at that tournament.
This past weekened, on Dec. 19 & 20, the Indians travelled to the Pelham Invitational Tournament, where Adams took home first place.
En route to finishing at the top of the podium, Adams beat the #2 ranked wrestler in the state. His win along with his impressive record of 25 wins and just two losses this season has earned him the #2 ranking in Alabama 6A wrestling.
Head Wrestling Coach Josh Highland had high praise for the 8th grader.
"To be in the 8th grade, he wrestles with so much composure in every match," said Highland. "No matter what, I feel like he always has a chance to win with how he wrestles every match."
The Wetumpka Indians' wrestling team will be back in action Dec. 29 & 30 at the Scott Rohrer Tournament in Hoover, Ala.
