FCB Athlete of the Week: 08/07 | Charlie Skipper
First Community Bank Athlete of the Week: Charlie Skipper
WETUMPKA, Ala. - Indians football quarterback Charlie Skipper is the Athlete of the Week for July 28-Aug. 2.
The sophomore had an impressive showing in the Battle for the County 7v7 Tournament at the Wetumpka Sports Complex. Skipper led the team to its third-consecutive tournament win.
"He's stepped up as a sophomore and has continued to develop," head coach Bear Woods said. "He has a 'put me in coach' mentality and we're proud of him."
Skipper had one start in his freshman season against Pike Road. The Indians pieced together over 500 total yards. Skipper threw for 90 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 55 yards over six carries in the 17-12 loss.
In his newfound leadership role, Skipper joined Coach Woods and other team captains at the River Region Media Day at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery, Ala. He recognizes what it's going to take from him and the team in order to have a successful 2025 season.
"Reliability. Being able to count on each other," Skipper said. "Accountability in the weight room, in practice, and taking every rep like it's a game."
Skipper and the Indians take the field on Aug. 22 at Beauregard. The home opener is Aug. 29 against Chelsea at the Wetumpka Sports Complex.
